Why would you want to make your dog wear a boring leash when you can get something made for it for a few extra bucks? Dog leashes that are both fancy and practical are available even at the local pet supplies stores. Designers who make clothes, shoes and other items for dogs also make leashes and according to them, pet owners are more than willing to spend a little more on the complete look–a costume for their canine complete with a matching leash for the Halloween, a wedding or any other such family event. Thus, dog leashes are more than just a harness to keep your dog in check.

There is no one answer to this question. And there’s no reason why you and your dog should be limited to just one leash. With the variety of leashes now available, you can look to having leashes for specific uses. You could use a standard or a leash with a limited amount of stretch for just going for a walk. A retractable leash will allow you to sit back on a park bench while your dog wanders around, but remains in your control. Use a training leash to help train a puppy. You have different clothes for different occasions. Why not give your dog the benefit a few different leashes for different occasions?

Dogs may not like leashes, but dog owners do. In most places it is illegal to take a dog out unless it is on a proper dog leash. While a single dog leash is enough, any dog owner will enjoy having a variety of leashes to choose from, both just for variety and for different conditions. You can get a hands free dog leash for times when you are carrying things. Then there is the extendable leash to give the dog more freedom when playing in a park. Even if the person you want to present a leash to already has different types of leashes, just an ordinary one with a different design or look will always be appreciated.

A dog collar is easy to put on and take off. Why then bother with a dog harness which involves strapping a complicated device around a dog’s fore legs and chest? There are two main reasons why a dog harness is better than a dog collar. Firstly, when a dog pulls excessively on a collar it is in danger of choking itself and also of damaging the neck muscles, both of which can be serious. Secondly, since the leash is attached to the dog’s back and not to the neck, controlling a dog on a dog harness is much easier than controlling one wearing a collar.

Many dog owners resist the idea of using a dog harness since the dog is already wearing a collar to which a leash can be attached. While a collar is required, either for attaching the dog license, to keep off fleas, to stop the dog from barking (a bark collar), attaching a leash to a dog harness is better for the dog. A dog that is constantly tugging hard at his leash can hurt the muscles in its neck. A dog harness prevents this from happening. This is especially useful for small dogs with thin necks and older dogs with weaker muscles which are more easily damaged.

Shopping means taking your pet pooch with you, or else how will you know if you bought the right trinket? And taking your canine companion with you means a ride in the car. So first of all, we need to make sure that your dog will enjoy the ride in perfect safety. Yes, we’re going to strap it in for the comfort and enjoyment of all, with our first example of dog supplies. This can be done with a step-in pet harness, padded for a great fit; and that connects right into a car’s safety belt buckle. Even better, when you arrive at the store, unbuckle your dog but leave the harness on as a walking harness.
